According to a calculation made by the semiconductor analyst Jim Handy, since the first transistor was created in 1947, 2,913,276,327,576,980,000,000 transistors – that’s 2.9 sextillion – have been manufactured, and within a few years there will be more transistors in the world than all the cells in all the human bodies on earth.
